King, Krebs & Jurgens Supports VetLaunch Showcase and Water Challenge During New Orleans Entrepreneur Week 2015

03.20.2015

King, Krebs & Jurgens is pleased to sponsor New Orleans Entrepreneur Week 2015, including contributing to the prize packages of the VetLaunch Showcase and the Fifth Annual Water Challenge, both being held on March 23. New Orleans Entrepreneur Week begins today, and celebrates business, innovation, and advanced thinking in New Orleans.

The VetLaunch Showcase is the culmination of the nine-week VetLaunch Accelerator, a program for five early-stage, veteran-owned New Orleans businesses. The program’s goal is to harness the leadership experience of military veterans as a resource for creating successful businesses. King, Krebs & Jurgens provided group instruction by Len Brignac on intellectual property law as well as pro bono legal counseling during the course of the Accelerator program, and has committed to continuing to provide the entrepreneurs with pro bono legal assistance over the next year. The VetLaunch Showcase will be held on Monday, March 23, from 10:00 a.m. until noon at 625 Celeste Street.

The Water Challenge is a 12-week mentorship and peer learning program focused on solving critical water challenges through entrepreneurship. On March 23, a full day of programming will be held at The Chicory, 612 Fulton Street, focusing on entrepreneurial opportunities within the local water economy. At 3:45 that afternoon, Water Challenge finalists will take part in a pitch competition before a judging panel including Henry King. King, Krebs & Jurgens provided pro bono legal counseling to participating entrepreneurs during the course of the Water Challenge program, and for the second year will award free legal services and free office space for one year to the pitch competition winner.

Last year’s Water Challenge winner, Tyler Ortego of ORA Estuaries, sells the OysterBreak™, a structure designed to use an oyster’s inherent nature of clustering and shell building to further coastal protection. These structures are made of OysterKrete®, a marine-grade, cement-based material designed specifically to grow oysters. King, Krebs & Jurgens has enjoyed sharing our office space with Tyler and ORA Estuaries over the past year, and wishes him great success as he competes in “The Big Idea” pitch, which closes out New Orleans Entrepreneur Week on March 27.
